Fans Crowd Auckland Airport to Welcome Virat Kohli Ahead of New Zealand ODIs

CricBengal.com | Cricket Desk

Virat Kohli once again witnessed the enormous popularity he enjoys among cricket fans. The former India captain received a massive welcome at Auckland Airport after arriving in New Zealand ahead of India’s five-match ODI series against the hosts.

Supporters gathered in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the batting superstar, with many seeking selfies and autographs. Security personnel eventually helped Kohli move through the crowded terminal.

Fans Seek Selfies and Autographs

Kohli arrived in Auckland on Friday, October 30, ahead of India’s upcoming ODI assignment. Videos circulating on social media showed supporters standing behind barricades, chanting his name and trying to take photographs.

Some fans also carried posters wishing him in advance for his birthday, which falls on November 5.

Kohli responded to the excitement by gesturing to the crowd to remain calm. He also signed a poster for one supporter before security personnel escorted him through the gathering crowd.

Kohli Looks to Continue Strong ODI Form

India head into the series after securing a 2-1 ODI victory over the West Indies at home earlier this month.

Kohli made an impressive start to that series, scoring an unbeaten 139 off 88 deliveries in the opening match. The innings also helped him become only the second batter, after Sachin Tendulkar, to reach 15,000 runs in ODI cricket.

The former India captain also has an impressive record in New Zealand. He has scored 596 runs in 13 ODI innings in the country at an average of 49.66, including one century and four half-centuries.

India-New Zealand ODI Series Begins on November 4

The five-match ODI series between India and New Zealand will begin on November 4 at Eden Park in Auckland.

The teams will then travel to Wellington and Hamilton before the final two matches in Mount Maunganui.

Kohli will be joined by several experienced members of India’s squad, including Rohit Sharma and captain Shubman Gill. Indian supporters will be hoping the veteran batter can carry his recent form into the New Zealand series.
