The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the deadline for IPL franchises to submit their player retention lists by two days ahead of the upcoming season.
Franchises will now have until November 17 to finalise the players they want to retain and those they intend to release. The previous deadline was November 15.
The decision was communicated to the franchises through an official notice sent on Monday, November 2.
Why Was the Deadline Extended?
According to the report, the extension is linked to India’s ongoing ODI series against New Zealand.
The fifth and final match of the series is scheduled to take place on November 15 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.
With the previous retention deadline falling on the same day, the BCCI has reportedly given franchises an additional 48 hours to complete their decisions.
Mini-Auction Schedule Remains Unchanged
Although the retention deadline has been extended, there has been no change to the scheduled date or venue of the IPL mini-auction.
The auction is still scheduled to take place on December 16 in Goa.
The revised deadline gives franchises more time to assess their squads and finalise their retention and release decisions before turning their attention to the auction.
More Time for Franchise Planning
Player retention is an important part of the IPL team-building process. Franchises must decide which players they want to keep, which players they are willing to release and what gaps they may need to address at the auction.
The BCCI’s decision gives all franchises two additional days to complete that process.
With the mini-auction date unchanged, teams will now have until November 17 to finalise their lists before continuing preparations for the December 16 event.
