Bangladesh batter Mominul Haque has been ruled out of the remainder of the first Test against West Indies after suffering a concussion while fielding on the third day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik has been approved as Mominul’s concussion substitute for the rest of the match.

The incident occurred during the 78th over of West Indies’ first innings on Friday, October 30. Mominul was fielding at short leg when Joshua Bishop edged a delivery from Mehidy Hasan Miraz towards him. The Bangladesh batter attempted to take the catch but fell face-first onto the ground and sustained a head injury.

Jaker Approved as Concussion Substitute

Bangladesh’s team physio immediately assessed Mominul before he left the field. After showing signs of concussion, he was ruled out of the remaining action.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that Jaker had been approved as his replacement. Under the concussion substitute rules, Jaker is eligible to bat, bowl and field for the remainder of the match.

He subsequently joined Bangladesh’s second innings when the hosts were struggling after losing several early wickets.
